AVAC Swim School® was started in 1964 by Jim & Linda Theiring in a leased outdoor pool. In 1974, the Theirings & their longtime friends Joe Shank and JoAnn Shank came together to buy the land where AVAC® is currently located. They started with the outdoor pool & athletic club – for 26 years they taught lessons seasonally in the outdoor pool. In 2000, they took on the goal of building a state-of-the-art Open Aire facility where lessons are now taught year round.
