Recruitment for AVAC® Swim Teachers begins with seeking passionate individuals who pass our background check requirements, are comfortable in the water, and love children. We seek teammates whose personal values line up with AVAC® Core Values of: Safe and Clean, Love of Service, Innovation, Family & Community, and Leadership. Once selected, we train all of our teachers in the proprietary AVAC® Method. Each new teacher undergoes approximately 40 hours of training, including introduction to our programs and philosophies, 30 plus hours of shadowing and team teaching with experienced teachers, as well as lesson planning and emergency action plan procedures. All of this is followed by weekly meetings with a peer mentor.
Our Deck Supervisors are all experienced teachers capable of teaching all class levels, serve as mentors to the new teachers, and are Red Cross-certified Lifeguards with knowledge of CPR, AED, and First Aid. They are selected based on their quality of teaching, level of experience, and leadership capabilities. We pride ourselves on not only our knowledge of aquatics, but on child development as it pertains to a recreational and learn-to-swim setting.
